Facts about Pollution

Pollution can be defined as any alteration of the natural environment producing a condition that is harmful to living organisms.

Pollution may occur naturally, as when an erupting volcano emits sulfur dioxide, but the term usually refers to the negative effect of human activities; e.g., automobile exhaust emissions, oil spills, the dumping of industrial wastes in the water supply, the overuse of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, improper disposal of solid wastes, and so on.

Leading experts have had a basic assumption that a country's environmental impact could be measured by an equation. This equation is known as "IPAT", Impact = Population x Affluence x Technology. "IPAT" seems simple enough and perhaps pragmatic in assumption, however, additional analysis has revealed that the variables of affluence and technology may not always cause harm to the environment.

So all this means is that pollution has a significant bearing as to the impact upon our Environment.
